Alkis Barbas is a dancer, performer, teacher and organizer based in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. He grew up as a dancer in the cultural scene of Thessaloniki, Greece, before moving to the Netherlands to complete a Bachelor of Dance in Arnhem. Since 2021 he has been working professionally as an interdisciplinary performer, alongside exploring various training practices that develop the body and mind while keeping both healthy.
Since 2022 Alkis has taught movement-based workshops for non-professionals in Thessaloniki and the Netherlands, and made his international debut as a facilitator at the Rhythm and Moves Festival in Italy. He hosts monthly Contact Improvisation jams and since September 2024 has run a weekly CI class with great success.
In his teaching, Alkis places care at the centre, without compromising the search for excitement and individual limits. He believes that playful learning allows dancers of all levels to grow and enjoy together, and always makes room for reflection, so students leave energised and inspired.
