Johanna is a dancer, choreographer and educator based in Arnhem, the Netherlands. She organizes regular dance workshops, jam sessions and performances on various locations. Together with Alkis Barbas she forms Shared Motion, through which she organizes and teaches regular Contact Improvisation classes in and around Arnhem and Nijmegen.
Johanna graduated as an artist educator in dance from Artez in 2022. She then deepened her dance practice by studying contemporary dance and choreography at La Faktoria Choreographic Centre, in Spain. Contact improvisation to her is both a physical research and play with gravity, as well as a listening practice that allows you to connect differently to the people around you and can offer a mirror to your ways of relating to the ones around you.
For Johanna, dance has different faces. It allows her to ground herself, allowing us to be present in our bodies. Through movement she finds different dimensions or capacities of her physical body that she wants to research, explore and share with others. She encourage a curious mindset and playfulness in my workshops, as well as stillness, deep listening to yourself and the other and reflection through movement.
